Cover Art Michael Kamen and Orbital
Event Horizon
[London]
Rating: 7.6

With around sixty film scores under his belt, Michael Kamen's gotten pretty good at wielding the ol' baton. While his influences always show right through his work (this soundtrack could only have been inspired by John Williams' music for "Star Wars" and Jerry Goldsmith's orchestration for "Alien"), he does have style, hiring Orbital to contribute to his work.

You'll find yourself wondering, though, just where they could be on this soundtrack as they certainly take their time showing up -- there's no sign of the band for the first five minutes of the disc. Luckily, they arrive just in time to steal the show away from Kamen's hundred thousand-piece orchestra and make this soundtrack infinitely more compelling than it could ever have been otherwise. I've been waiting for a collaboration like this to happen. Event Horizon pulls out more than I expected.
