TOP SIXERS STORY
Philadelphia Inquirer
Snow, Sixers are battered but victorious
During a frustrating preseason of ice packs and Ace bandages, the 76ers have had as much trouble staying healthy as they have had winning games. Any practice or game during which a Sixer is not wheeled to an infirmary constitutes progress.

PRESEASON

   Bucks under even more scrutiny
Evidently, George Karl was not at fault last season. Neither were Sam Cassell, Ray Allen nor most of the rest of the bunch in Milwaukee. None of them had much to do with the downward spiral that culminated in the Bucks' losing 14 of their last 19 regular-season games and missing the playoffs just one season after advancing to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against the 76ers.

GAME SUMMARIES

Spurs 95, 76ers 82
Tim Duncan, the league's MVP last season, had 18 points and 12 rebounds in 23 minutes Tuesday night to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 95-82 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in an NBA exhibition opener.

Hawks 102, Magic 75
Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 18 points and Jason Terry added 17 to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 102-75 exhibition victory over the Orlando Magic Tuesday night in a game that provided a preseason look at newcomers and returnees from the injured list.

Rockets 106, Grizzlies 98
Steve Francis scored 30 points as the Houston Rockets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 106-98 Tuesday night in the first exhibition game for both teams.

Mavericks 105, Kings 94
Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and Raef LaFrentz added 19 points and 16 rebounds Tuesday night, sending the Dallas Mavericks to a 105-94 win over the Sacramento Kings in an exhibition opener.

Timberwolves 88, Milwaukee 82
Felipe Lopez scored all 15 of his points in the second half Tuesday night, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Milwaukee Bucks 88-82 in the exhibition opener for both teams.

Pistons 80, Raptors 70
Vince Carter scored 26 points in his first game since surgery on his left knee in March, but the Toronto Raptors lost to the Detroit Pistons 80-70 Tuesday night.
