State College's 'temporary' food bank turns 20 years old
The State College Area Food Bank, launched in 1982 as a short-term effort to help people in need, provided emergency food to 315 people that first year. Twenty years later, the recession of the early 1980s is a distant memory -- as are the boom times of the 1990s -- but the food bank is still in business, now serving more than 2,000 people a year.

The Food Bank
The Food Bank of the State College Area distributes food three days a week to eligible recipients.Who is eligible: Residents of the State College Area School District and the part of Julian with a telephone number that beings with the first three digits 692. Applicants must meet income eligibility guidelines and be referred by a church or social service agency.
