Penn State trounces Bucknell
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Six different Nittany Lions scored goals as the No. 6 Penn State field hockey team won its third straight game with an 8-0 shutout of Bucknell on Tuesday night at Bigler Field.
Penn State extended its winning streak against non-conference opponents to 14 games while posting season-highs in goals and shots (32).
The victory improves Penn State to 10-1 overall while Bucknell drops to 5-7.
Mary Schaefer scored the first of five first-half goals for Penn State when she beat Bucknell goalkeeper Sonja Wettergreen on a penalty shot at 2:47.
Jill Martz increased the lead to 2-0 with her fourth goal of the season at 11:26.
Timarie Legel scored her eighth goal of the season off a feed from Neilye Stoner to up the Penn State advantage to 3-0 at 13:35 of the first half.
Stoner added a score of her own at 20:17 before Kelly Concini deflected in a Heather Conroy pass to round out the first half scoring with just over 12 minutes remaining.
Karin Grap, Stoner and Schaefer each netted second-half goals for the Nittany Lions.
Annie Zinkavich made one save while earning her second straight shutout and sixth of the season.
