Knight Ridder Digital and Udate.com Launch New Real Cities Personals Channel

NEW YORK, NY and SAN JOSE, CA-April 18, 2002 -Udate.com Inc., (OTC BB: UDAT), the global online personals group providing dating and matchmaking services to over 220,000 paying subscribers through two leading brands, www.kiss.com and www.udate.com, and Knight Ridder Digital (KRD), the operator of the Real Cities network of local media Web sites, today announced a co-branded content relationship through which KRD will develop a new "personals" channel within the Real Cities Classifieds Channel. Knight Ridder Digital will create a co-branded version of uDate.com to be featured on KRD owned and operated Real Cities sites and some affiliate Real Cities sites such as the New York Daily News.

uDate.com enables singles to find new friends or partners for friendship, dating and long-term relationships in a safe and entertaining environment. Based on preferences provided by the user, the vast uDate.com database searches for "matches." Once two people are "matched," they can communicate via uDate.com's private one-to-one communication tool, Whispers, or via the uDate.com email system. Users can browse the service for free, and those who want to communicate with others and participate actively in the service, can choose from a variety of fee-based programs.

To engage consumers, Knight Ridder Digital is initiating offline promotion through local grass roots marketing programs as well as advertising in Knight Ridder newspapers and target audience- driven contests to further build awareness and drive traffic to the new personals co-branded service.

The new personals channel will be available on Real Cities Web sites listed below. Users can click on KRD's Real Cities "classified" sections on the top main channel tool bar, then select "Personals." On the New York Daily News Real Cities site, users can click on the "Find-a-Date" button on the lower left rail of the home page.
