Measures Against Reservoir Sedimentation (1 of 8)

1.Background
Because the rivers in Japan are steep in gradient, and the sediment yield rate in the mountainous area is sizable, the discharge sediment is generally quite large. Therefore, some dams have problems in dam management.

ProblemsF
- Rising in the riverbed near the tail of the reservoir because of back sand sedimentation
- Reduction of the storage capacity because of sedimentation
- Long-term muddiness in the reservoir because of erosion of back sand
- Riverbed degradation in the downstream reaches
- Coastal erosion around the river mouth

Recently, the appropriate measures for the maintenance of dams are being taken as follows;
