DJ Shadow Taps Anti-Pop to Open U.S. Dates
DJ Jazzy Jeff taps the Rockies with an ice-cold Coors

Will Bryant reports:
DJ Shadow has selected underground hip-hoppers Anti-Pop Consortium to open seven U.S. dates next month. Anti-Pop Consortium, who've just released their latest album, Arrhythmia, on Warp, have a new single, "Ghost Lawns," out June 10th in the UK. Shadow's MCA debut, The Private Press, is out next week-- bizarro cartoon artwork and all. Tour dates:

06-03 New York, NY - Irving Plaza
06-04 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
06-06 Chicago, IL - Park West
06-07 Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue
06-09 Seattle, WA - Showbox
06-11 San Francisco, CA - Fillmore
06-12 Los Angeles, CA - Mayan Theatre

According to a report in Magnet magazine, each of the members of Anti-Pop Consortium are preparing solo albums for release later this year. The underground collective grew out of a mutual respect among writers/rappers Priest, Beans, and M.Sayyid and the engineering prowess of E.Blaize, each of whom had been creating alchemies of rap and poetry on their own before uniting under the APC banner.

White Stripes Looking for a Few Good Dancers
Guy from Frankie Goes to Hollywood fails audition, weeps privately behind sunglasses

Brock Kappers reports:
Tell me sir/ma'am, do you have that sexy heroin-chic look goin' for you? Does your hair look like Danny Partridge's? Are you wearing a white shirt and red Dockers? If you answered yes to any one of those questions, then you are qualified to dance onstage with the White Stripes at the MTV Movie Awards!

Yes, the MTV fashion squad are out looking for fresh hipster blood to promote their new flavor of the month. Some of the guidelines are "you're supposed to be dancing onstage, so no wallflowers" and "casted fans must 'appear' between the ages of 18-25" (damn those agists at MTV). So if exploiting the current music scene is your cup of tea, contact MTV at (818) 407-7434! You must be ready to party all day June 1st to make the cut, else, yo ass is gonna be Dismissed!!

In other news of the red and white variety, it appears that V2 Records will be picking up distribution of the peppermint duo's first two albums, The White Stripes and De Stijl. As previously reported, V2 is already distributing White Blood Cells and will release the pair's next album in early 2003.

Dead Low Tide Burning Up Public Access
Made better bandname than "White Squall," "The Perfect Storm"

Alan Haworth reports:
Members of the now-defunct, raucous bar band Murder City Devils have spun off into Dead Low Tide, with a roster including Spencer Moody (vox), Mike Kunka (bass), Coady Willis (drums), and Nate Manny (guitars). Kunka, new to the group, used to play with Godheadsilo and Enemymine.

Dead Low Tide is planning to release their first full-length album in October on their own label, Ill Eagle Records, according to their official website. For a taste of their blistering tunes, you can download an MP3 of "Barrel Vault" from the site and "Navy Buttons" from Insound. Even better, pick up the seven-inch single at a show. Dischord Amps Up Reissue Program
Miss Pitchfork if you're Dag Nasty

Jonah Flicker reports:
Dischord Records is reissuing several classic hardcore albums this month and next, with some extra tricks and treats attached. The one and only Embrace album, originally released in 1986, has been remastered with two outtakes from the studio sessions ("Money" and "Dance of Days") slapped on at the end. This band featured Sir Ian McKaye (he's been knighted, right?) on vocals and rocked hard in anticipation of the Fugazi to come.

Two Dag Nasty albums have also been dusted off and remastered, showing us all how the real punk rocks. Can I Say, first issued in 1986, has some new artwork and six additional tracks, including four live songs recorded at the Electric Banana in Pittsburgh that same year. Wig Out at Denko's is supplemented by five new studio tracks from the "Mango Sessions" (originally released on Selfless Records) and two live acoustic songs recorded in Albany in 1987. This reissue will be out on June 24th. No remixes with recycled Biggie vocals are in the offing, but a Neptunes collaboration is said to be on the horizon.
