IPS Africa
is a network of about 20
correspondents and stringers in
West, Central, East and Southern
Africa. The main editing
centre is located in Harare,
Zimbabwe, and there are also
full- time offices in
Johannesburg, South Africa,
Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos,
Nigeria.
In Africa, IPS
disseminates via a number of
service providers to clients who
include a growing list of media,
NGO and institutions in many
countries such as Nigeria, Ghana,
The Gambia, Tanzania, Uganda and
Kenya.
The leading private
independent news media in 10
Southern Africa countries receive
IPS material through the MISANET, an e-mail
distribution network of MISA (the
Media Institute for Southern
Africa). Within South Africa, IPS
distributes its material via
SAPA, the South African Press
Association, which has dedicated
and satellite links to the
country's mainstream media.
Through SABANEWS, a rip-and-read
radio news service prepared twice
a day by IPS Africa on behalf of
10 public radio station members
of the Southern African
Broadcasting Association (SABA),
IPS material is made available to
some 100 million listeners in the
SABA region.
