Pegboy
Cha Cha Damore
[Touch and Go]
Rating: 2.5
You know what makes me mad? Certain songs that should never be covered
getting covered by bands who shouldn't bother. The helpless victim in
this case is Cheap Trick's "Surrender," who gives up and lets the
band have their way with her by verse two. Yeah, it's still fun when
your friend's band rips into it at a garage show, but do you want one
on a record you put down your hard-earned money for? Of course not!
A cover of "Surrender" can be taken to mean that the band's too lazy to reach
beyond their grasp, and the fist is limp for most of Cha Cha Damore.
It's like four guys heard the Ramones said "I can do that," and fucked
that one up, too. I've heard this album, said "I can do that," and
promptly sold it. The $2 went to my massage parlor fund. Another 20
CDs like this and I'm springing for a handjob. Mark my words, Steve.
Something good is gonna come out of this, and I'm making Pegboy pay for it.
