Won
[No Alternative/TRG]
Rating: 7.3

Dylan Hicks has been rocking the Minneapolis scene for what seems like forever. He's put a few seven-inches out, but this is his first true full-length release (hence the clever title, Won, like One, only not). The record starts out friendly enough with the happiest rock song in the world, "Governor of Fun", and then suddenly changes course on your by then pacifist ass, and whips out the mental blowtorch with the hateful "Screw You (And Screw Your Friends)". "I Just Want You To Like Me" is a bizarre Vegas thing, and "Foxie Lamotta", the album's fourth song, reeks of Philly soul influences. Within the first fifteen minutes, Dylan's all over the map. Hey, he's like that in person, too.
