Cover Art Goldfinger
Hang-Ups
[Mojo/Universal]
Rating: 8.3

After having recently listened to Reel Big Fish's Turn The Radio Off, this was a relief. Where RBF was banging along like slap-happy pig buggies, Goldfinger is tight, oh so tight. Instrumentally, they're in a hard groove, juicing up their ska-core like professionals on a mission from God.

It seemed like there was a moment between the initial attention the Bosstones got and the burgeoning Cult of Gwen where Goldfinger popped up and said, "Hi, we rule," for a moment, but never really got their say. Hang-Ups should change that. Each track is a yin/yang combo of ska and hardcore, some tracks more ska, some more core, but each packed with the solid energy that you only get from pros on the circuit. Toungue-in-cheek lyrics, dense guitars seesawing with horns, no breathers.
