That's What Love Songs Often Do
[A&M;]
Rating: 7.4

Love Songs? Maybe. I was surprised by how good this album actually is, what with a band name like Fig Dish. In fact, I can't decide which song is my favorite. I first heard these guys late last year on a tribute album to Tom Petty called You Got Lucky. They covered "Don't Come Around Here No More," and it was like brilliance.

Fig Dish sound like a more melodic Archers of Loaf to me. "Weak and Mean" actually sounds remarkably like the Archers' "Harnessed in Slums." But regardless of who the fuck it sounds like, it's impressive in its own right, and I recommend you take a listen to it some time, just so you can see for yourself.
