When I Was Born for the 7th Time
[Luaka Bop/Warner Bros.]
Rating: 7.2

Whoa. Try to imagine some guy(s) collecting samples on a tape recorder along with all sorts of instruments and phrases and weaving them into an album utilizing elements of both Eastern and Western music. Add a splash of smirking experimental irony, some jangly, cheerful hooks, and a pinch of cumin. Beat-box meets the sitar. It makes for a menagerie of differrent textures without a lot of direction, but with some entertaining flavors.

There's guest appearances by both Allan Ginsberg and The Automator (of Dr. Octagon fame), and an amusing cover of The Beatles' "Norweigan Wood".
