Six Feet of Chain
[No. 6]
Rating: 5.7

Dean Wareham's side project with his wife, moviemaker Claudia Silver, is less impressive than his work with Luna and a far, far stretch from Galaxie 500 but is still incredibly appealing.

Six Feet of Chain is a record of covers of classic (and not so classic) songs by new wave character Martin Rev, Karen Black, Bobbie Gentry, Gordon Lightfoot and more. There are also two songs on Chain penned by Lee Hazlewood, the man that made Nancy Sinatra a star in the '60s.

The only things that bring the album down are that the songs Dean and Claudia picked out could've been a little more interesting (songs like Marty Robbins' "The Last Goodbye" and Minnie Ripperton's "Lovin' You" are both remarkable bores) and... well, Claudia can't really sing very well, either.
