Rollin' Tumblin' EP
[Bongload]
Rating: 3.0

Okay, kids. It's remix time. Y'all know our disposable pal, the remix EP, right? That's where you buy a CD that has a few versions of the same song, maybe a bonus track or two, but that's about it. You pay to hear different tweakings of the same song. Do people really enjoy these things? I remember when Kirsty MacColl had a minor alterna-hit with "Walking Down Madison" and released an EP that was nothing more than seven versions of the song. It's currently in heavy rotation in Hell.

Maybe you can tell that I'm not too keen on the remix EP, even if the subject is a curious one like R.L. Burnside. Now, I won't deny that Alejandro Rosso's Hammond- handed house remix is fun, or that the original version of "Rollin' Tumblin'" is dirty food gritty, but there's this other remix that's up to no good-- the first one. That's three versions of "Rollin' Tumblin'," in case you weren't counting.

That leaves us with two other tracks: an electronica- soaked take on the ol' blues classic, "Going Down South," and something called "Sht Bug." That's right. I said "Sht." Whatever it means, I said it. It's the same song as "Rollin' Tumblin'," only it's... slowed... down... And it sounds like Beck's "Loser." It also doesn't sound like I like it, so I'd have to say pass.
