Buffalo Tom
Let Me Come Over
[Beggars Banquet]
Rating: 7.9
What the fuck is this? Buffalo Tom's sophomore effort Let Me Come Over
has been reissued. Has it been that long since 1992? What's going on?
Well, word is that the Buffalo boys have a new one on the way so what better
way to re-enter the public consciousness than via reissue? There are no
bonus tracks, outtakes, or b-sides; what you get is the same album from
the early '90s. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Buffalo Tom was like a
more decibel and temper friendly version of Dinosaur Jr., bashing out
sparkly, emotional rock and roll. (Or, if you will, Buffalo Tom begat
Everclear.)
I hadn't heard this album since it used to be in regular rotation at my
college radio station, and I'm surprised how much of it still holds up
in the crazy years since. "Staples," "Stymied," "Taillights Fade," and
"Velvet Roof" still pack neat punches, thanks to the simple production
of Paul Q. Kolderie, Sean Slade, and the band. If you haven't Come Over
yet, now's your chance.
