Cover Art Brian Setzer Orchestra
Guitar Slinger
[Interscope]
Rating: 5.4

Holy God! It's former Stray Cat, Brian Setzer, and he and the orchestra are back with yet another swingin' 50's-inspired album.

One of the first records I ever bought as a kid was the Stray Cats' Built For Speed, which included such classic hits as "Rock This Town" and the infamous "Stray Cat Strut." That was in 1982. It's funny that in over 13 years, Setzer's sound hasn't changed at all, he's just taken it to new heights.

The guitar-rock legend has put together 12 songs, among them several new original pieces, a couple new versions Stray Cats tunes, and covers of songs by Stevie Ray Vaughn among others.

This record's only problem is that it doesn't go anywhere. He sticks with that same retro-rock gimmick, and it only works for three or four tracks in. Man, if it only had some variety!
