Synergy
Cords
[Third Contact]
Rating: 6.0
I'm not sure if I like this album more than I should or just more than I
want to admit to. I'm always down with early electronic experimental music,
which this definitely is. But...
Well, Larry Fast, who used to play with the likes of Peter Gabriel, was
fond of creating completely synthesized music under the Synergy moniker.
Cords is his third release, and he's got a die hard cult following
that's been waiting for these reissues. I'm wasn't, but that doesn't mean
I haven't been enjoying them.
It also doesn't mean I haven't been flinching. Most of the album is
comprised of an instrumental suite called "Phobos and Deimos Go to Mars."
Some of you reading this have just seen the lightbulb go on. Precisely--
this is not your album; doubly so if you never dug Tangerine Dream. And
even if you have, be warned that some moments on Cords could arguably
have planted the seeds for Mannheim Steamroller.
Overall, it's a decent album filled with enough analog instrumentation
to make any robo-geek go "beep." Plus, if you really miss "Battlestar
Galactica," there's something about this album that can bring out the
Cylon in any hopeless case.
