Cover Art Spearhead
Chocolate Supa Highway
[Capitol]
Rating: 7.4

Just so you know, Chocolate Supa Highway contains a lot more references to pot smoking and a lot less references to anything worth talking about than Spearhead's impressive debut, Home. But it doesn't seem to matter because Michael Franti's musical flair and percussive inclination is more than enough to keep the listener interested.

The R&B; swing of "Keep Me Lifted" is an appealing chunk of grrove and the acoustic beauty of "Tha Payroll (Stay Strong)" is undeniable, but as always with Spearhead, every track's a winner. The record's highlight, "Gas Gauge (Tha World's In Your Hands)," is the story of a little brother trying to make it through life the legal way, and a big brother that consistantly fucks up, getting little brother killed. Oops.
