Aphex Twin
The Richard D. James Album
[Warp/Sire]
Rating: 8.4
Am I the only one here that can't function properly
while this Aphex Twin disc is spinning? I can't possibly be
alone on this.
The actual melodies on Richard D. James are moderately
relaxing and quite smooth left on their own. The wiggly vibes
of "4" eminate effortlessly from your speakers like Prince came
down to cop with the real on a Casio Tone Bank leaving you in an
eighteenth dimension that sounds like an ambient version of
Dirty Mind.
What really threw me was the damn beats which were all fucking
over the place. Just when your brain starts to comprehend a
rhythmic pattern, the beat shifts, turns left and crushes your
torso under the steering wheel.
The Richard D. James Album is 43.5 minutes of pure electronic
genius. Now if I can just stop twitching...
