Cover Art A Ten O'Clock Scholar
Quietest
[Grass]
Rating: 8.5

It's the marriage I've always dreamed of. No, not me and Barbara Manning, but Pavement and Helmet. The lyrics and delivery of the former meet the riffs of the latter. And yes, it's that good.

With song titles like "Lando" and "Autobots vs. Decepticons," it's safe to say that A Ten O'Clock Scholar dig their science fiction. I can say a hearty "yes" to that, simply because I've seen their press photo and think that they probably spent a lot of time in the high school chess club. The music here is a lot like chess with pawns of chords sacrificed to the knights of the rhythm section. As they tangle and dive, it's checkmate time for you, pal.

Just like my parents, I've awarded 10 dollars for every A and five for every B on the band's report card. Ah, but I'm still unemployed. Percentage points will have to do.
