Cover Art Porno For Pyros
Good God's Urge
[Warner Bros.]
Rating: 5.3

People give Perry Farrell a lot of shit about breaking up Jane's Addiction, but I always felt that even though Jane's was an awesome band, it was okay if Perry didn't want to do it anymore. I mean, that's his decision as an artist. He's not there with an obligation to please his fans.

When Porno For Pyros' debut came out, everybody was disappointed, including myself. What was up with all that crazyass ethnic shit? Man, I wanted to hear some rock music. As a result, you can find that album in any used record store for under $5. I bought it for two dollars off a friend when he wanted to sell it to a record store and they would only give him fifty cents. And when I took it home and listened to it, I felt robbed, as I'm sure everyone else did. Suddenly, things were not okay anymore. I wanted that old stuff back.

Well, Good God's Urge is suprisingly better, though it's certainly not Nothing's Shocking. You've undoubtedly heard "Tahitian Moon" on the radio, and it's a strikingly pretty melody with vivid lyrics to boot. The unfortunate truth is that if you've heard one song, you've heard them all.

Final decision: Depending on how successful Farrell's new festival, ENIT, goes in the future, we may even expect a Jane's Addiction reunion tour in thirty years.
