Cover Art Nikola Parov
Kilim
[Rykodisc]
Rating: 7.1

Nikola's a world-beat animal. I mean it. This guy is out of control. He's way more hardcore than most world-beat musicians 'cause he plays one hundred thousand instruments with style. He'd be wipin' the floor with Steve Winwood's ass.

Kilim, whatever it means, is like a slithery dancer, clapping his hands over his head and doing the Chicken Neck Dance and bein' all snake charmer and shit. In fact, when Zoltan Lantos steps in on "Anonym" to beat ass on the violin, it's like something out of a Roger Daltrey video (the one with the fetus floating in space).

Oh, and Nikola is a singing beast. He's crazy! There's no stopping him! He's more vocal than I was when I sprained my ankle a couple of weeks ago. ("You screamed like a woman," they told me.)

Kilim is maybe a bit too serious for someone like me, but when you get into the middle of this disc, it's got some real swanky ethnic groove. And you can't get beat by that.
