Super Furry Animals
Radiator
[Flydaddy]
Rating: 8.7
Every day some skinny, sweaty guy in a button down short sleeve shirt at SETI (Search
for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) sits with a CD player and broadcasts the history
of rock and roll across the vast expanses of the universe with the help of this giant
radio transmitter in the hopes that intelligent life will hear the riveting choruses
of, say, Steely Dan and decide to come enlighten us Earthlings. Today it is with
great pride that we scientists announce that we have received a response.
Don't worry, they aren't going to invade and vivisect us. They just want to rock us.
The response comes in the form of a playable compact disc, or double vinyl for you
indie types, and it's called the Super Furry Animals' Radiator. The aliens
(who look remarkably like drunk soccer blokes) play some killer tunes. It seems
they've taken every music CD our skinny, sweaty guy has transmitted and fused it
together in fuzz-pop perfection. We like to say it's catchier than pneumoconiosis
("dust in the lungs" disease) in a coal mine. Hee hee. Somehow the aliens found a
way to meld the Beatles, Radiohead, Chemical Brothers, Queen, Blur, and Cream. They
even offer a glimpse of their own language, called "Welsh," in "Torra Fy Ngwallt Yn
Hir," a sing-along gem...
Oh dear... wait... Something's gone wrong... Our skinny, sweaty guy can't stop
singing "Hermann Luvs Pauline." He's in a state of glossolalia (speaking in tongues)!
He says... the Super Furry Animals have their "Bass Tuned to D.E.A.D." and are coming
to conquer British music!
