10 Minute Warning
10 Minute Warning

Rating: 5.8
I'm having trouble figuring out whether or not this disc sounds ten
years old or five years old. Let's take up the five first: In 1993, the
second wave of grunge was rolling through America unabated. At the
crest of that wave were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and
sadly, Stone Temple Pilots. Fortunately, vocalist Christopher Blue
outmanuevers Weiland faster than you can say "detox," and Jack Endino's
production is swift but not too slick.
Now, ten years ago, 10 Minute Warning guitar guy Duff McKagan was
enjoying success beyond his wildest dreams as the guitarist for Guns N'
Roses. Now he's back, and there's just enough of that band in the veins
of this album to make you do a double take. "Buried" carries that
roughneck "It's So Easy" vibe like nobody's business, but again, Blue
sounds nothing like Axl Rose. He does, however, sound like the bastard
child of Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell. If that's your cup of microbrew,
have at it. If not, steer clear.
What did I think? 10 Minute Warning has its share of riff attacks
that'll get even the most jaded motherfucker to believe in rock and roll
again. Be warned, though-- it's all been done before. How does that go?
Nothing ventured...
