Page 1- Panel 1:
Norrin Radd sits in his cluttered bedroom. He pops a CD into his five-disc changer and straps on airport- worker sized headphones.
NARRATOR CAPTION: Young Norrin Radd inserts Swervedriver's 99th Dream into his stereo, unknowing of the power that is about to be released!
NORRIN CAPTION: "Totally Awesome!"
Page 1 - Panel 4:
Norrin clutches his head as pure energy pours out like an erupting volcano!
NORRIN CAPTION: "AHHHHH! Beautiful! The opening riff sounds like Dick Dale getting torn apart in a centrifuge! The... sweeping guitars... are... ripping my brain out like... like one of those silver claws from a quarter- eating arcade machine."
Panel 2 - Panel 1 (whole page):
Norrin's spirit gushes into orbit. Cosmic eruptions transform him into... THE SILVER SURFER!!
Sound FX- "CRRRAAZZZZACKT!"
Page 4 - Panel 2:
The Silver Surfer spits out of a wormhole with his headphones still blaring. Before him towers David "Galactos" Geffen, Planet Eater!
SILVER SURFER CAPTION: "Geffen! Just who I was looking for!"
GEFFEN [finishing off a planet]: *URP*
SILVER SURFER CAPTION: "I'm listening to Swervedriver's 99th Dream!" Ha, you fool! You cut them from DGC. Now with the power of their stellar space rock I will destroy you!"
Page 4- Panel 3:
SS CAPTION: "Suck Riff! Waaaa!"
GEFFEN: "NOOOO!!"
SOUND FX: "BLZZZT!"
Page 14- Panel 3:
The Silver Surfer streaks through deep space, still mesmerized by the caustic sweeping beauty of 99th Dream. The music is the perfect ambience for the stars shining off his mercury skin. In the chiseled small of his back a reflection of a quasar crawls across his chrome contours.
SS CAPTION: "I haven't heard guitars this uplifting since Radiohead's OK Computer! I've forgotten the Verve. Guitars crash like colliding nebulas or lover's lips. The vocals stretch out over the swirl like a parachute. This is their best album yet! It tickles the erogenous zones of my eardrums with metal feathers and static cracks. I love the way they've decided to put the pure distortion behind them and focus on detailed pickings and shifting melodies. To extend my simile, they realize there is beauty in the vast empty regions of space, as well as in the noise of streaking comets and smashing asteroids. The hooks are like that black hole over there, sucking me in. From the amazing bursts of the title track to the gorgeous sing- along, 'She Weaves a Tender Trap,' Swervedriver will forever aid me in my battle to protect the universe and unite with my lost love, Shalla Bal! Well, I mean, in addition to my Radiohead CDs."
SOUND FX: ZOOOOM!
