Cover Art Spring Heel Jack
Busy, Curious, Thirsty
[Island]
Rating: 8.3

While I profess to know less than nothing about this sort of music (The Village Voice says that these fellows are 'jungle'), the Englishmen in Spring Heel Jack have put together a very listenable disc. Although I suppose you'd file these gents under dance music, I feel no need to don a funny hat or anything while the disc is spinning. Supposedly, this is the day job of a Spiritualized guitarist, and as a Spacemen 3 buff, I've got to give 'em an additional thumbs-up. The enormous level of experimentation here shows that this disc doesn't deserve to be pigeonholed in some rave/ dance/ what- have- you category. Very, very creative, especially the last few tracks. Nice work. This will probably be on medium rotation around my house for quite a while.
