Is it me or does Merge Records just rule? This label is awesome! Everything they put out these days is great (though it usually doesn't turn to gold thanks to alternative radio's clueless program directors) so it should only seem fitting that for their 100th release, they're putting out a small compilation of cool stuff they've released.

However, when you find the record in your hands and realize it contains a whopping six tracks, you might think, "Gee, that's just a straight- out lack of confidence." But what lies inside is a great thing, friends. What lies, digitally implanted on this shiny, plastic disc is something so awesome, it'll blow your skull open with madness.

The secret? All six tracks are previously released songs by the bands Superchunk, The Magnetic Fields, Butterglory, Lambchop, Guv'ner and Spent which have been masterfully remixed by DJ Mark Robinson.

You might remember Robinson from the brilliant, seminal indie rock band Unrest or his project following Unrest's demise, Air Miami. What all this means to you is six songs you've already heard like you've never heard them before. Weird, spaced-out, electronic remixes that make Mac McCaughan "sound like Joy Division and Stephin Merritt sound... well, he still kinda sounds like Giorgio Moroder.

At any rate, this record is worth more than just the six or so dollars you'll pay for it because it works both as a great Merge sampler and a genius remix compiliation of songs that are completely awesome.
