Cover Art Rockers Hi-Fi
Mish Mash
[Warner Bros.]
Rating: 5.4

All I know about Rockers Hi-Fi is that they came from practically out of nowhere and they've just made a record that stomps ass completely. The disc seems to need about a minute to boot up. At first, the only audible sounds are some slamming doors, metropolitan noise and some guy sharing that he's just eaten too much cake. Only after 49 seconds when a voice says, "Now we bring you a chronicle of song" do the sounds escalate. "So our journey takes us into the field of music." Dark chimes and lucky charms echo from deep within the speakers, taking you to a different realm entirely. "I am a closet New Yorker."

Mish Mash comes to life letting loose 75 minutes of bass ooze and solar energy. The rhythms trip and the electric orchestra churns out murky music that dances on its own. These are plastic beats you can't do without. It's the aural equivilent of the New York Subway speeding to its death collision with pure, intense, driving sound.
