Cover Art Yoko Ono
Season of Glass
[Ryko]
Rating: 7.7

This, Yoko Ono's first album without and entirely about John Lennon is a landmark in musical history. Yoko wasted no time-- this album was finished less than a year after Lennon's death on December 8, 1980. It was a moment not unlike the recent death of Princess Diana. Though I was only four years old at the time, I remember everything about it.

While Season of Glass is not musically superb or dynamic, it marks the point in time when we all lost a legend and not only encapsulates Yoko's sadness, but the world's. But more than her sadness, Season of Glass displays Ono's remarkable strength through this period. This recent Ryko reissue was overseen by Ono and is its first time on compact disc. It includes two bonus tracks-- the hit "Walking on Thin Ice" and a harrowing version of "I Don't Know Why," recorded on a home tape recorder the day after Lennon's death.
