Cover Art The Moog Cookbook
Ye Olde Space Bande
[Restless]
Rating: 1.0

Ever been driven to murder? I almost have. It came with a listen to the heinous torture known as the Moog Cookbook. The latest record by these two Agents of Wackville has moved on to slightly more covered territory. Whereas their 1996 self-titled debut consisted of Mooged-up versions of brand- spankin' new, chart- topping modern rock hits, this sophomore release is more like crippling arthritis than a mild slump.

Leading what seems like hours and hours of played-out album rock overkill to the slaughter, the only essential '70s smash the spacecase duo leaves in the pen is "Freebird," and that's only because they've already murdered "Sweet Home Alabama" in cold blood. Yeah, all the freedom rock you've grown to hate is here. The Moog Cookbook have their way with "Born To Be Wild," "Whole Lotta Love," "Ziggy Stardust," "Hotel California," "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "Cat Scratch Fever," among others.

I guess all I can say is that it's been done a million times before. The Moog synthesizer is just a new weapon to kill by.
