"Ladykillers" sure is catchy the first time you hear it. By the fifth listen, though, you'll be tossing that disc in the garbage can to the tune of "Ciao!," the song they perform as a duet with Pulp's Jarvis Cocker. The lyrics on this record are generally poorly written (namely on "Ciao!"), but the music is usually just the opposite (except in the case of "Ciao!").

The first half of the record is flat-out generic trashpop. No arguments about it. But the second half is largely filled with the old Lush- style melodies we've come to know and love. I'll add, though, that if you can make it through that "Ciao!," you can make it through fucking anything, and I commend you.
