Cover Art Meco
The Best of...
[Chronicles/Casablanca]
Rating: 7.9

Meco is the encapsulation of the '70s, and these are his greatest hits. You may remember Meco's biggest song, the number one hit explosion, "Star Wars Theme/ Cantina Band." You'll also get "Theme From Close Encounters," "Themes From The Wizard of Oz," "Star Trek Medley, Pt. 1," "Love Theme From Superman (Can You Read My Mind?), and "Other Galactic Funk."

There are over 14 songs, most -- but not all -- of which are disco versions of sci-fi film themes. And let's face it: The album's arrived solely to cash in on the "Star Wars" mania that's sweeping the globe since the trilogy was re-released to theaters recently.

Nothing wrong with that. This makes for a great listen when you're aching for some electro- kitsch. Oh, there's also a picture in the liner notes of the people that worked on this record. Oddly enough, we've spotted longtime R.E.M. and Indigo Girls producer Scott Litt among them. Now that's space madness.
