Lincoln
Lincoln
[Slash/London]
Rating: 7.5
The sunshine of a Senior Class summer day is making you squint thru your
cheap sunglasses. Yer Chevy Vega is purring like a baby, and Lincoln's
holding your hand as you casually smile your way down the turnpike for the
shore. Lincoln is a pleasurable, easy record, smirking ironic pop-rock with
unpretentious flourishes: some appropriate fuzz on the guitar, ambling
melodies and occasional touches of retro-organ for atmosphere. Most of the
songs are actually sort of funny in that they clearly don't take themselves
(or anything) particularly seriously, so they don't mind a cheezy turn of
phrase, 'cause hey, it's a beautiful day, right?
Laid-back. Fun. These guys are not snotty rock-stars, they're having a good
time and it shows.
