Cover Art Morphine
B-Sides and Otherwise
[Rykodisc]
Rating: 5.0

B-Sides and Otherwise showcases the two sides of Morphine: the creepy, grooving side (as evidenced on the killer live versions of "Have a Lucky Day" and "All Wrong") and the boring, pretentious art rock- cum- beat poet masturbations that make up the bulk of this disc. You get a tribute to Kerouac, spoken word, freeform saxadelic wankery, and, yes, more spoken word through the goddamn harmonica mike. So much of it, in fact, that it ruins the enjoyment of listening to other Morphine albums. It's like when you see your best friend slap his child. Sure, you weren't hurt, but do you want to keep hanging around with him?
