The Show
Tinker, Debbie and Mark are teenagers on the drag race circuit who build Speed Buggy, a remote-control car with a mind of its own. The venerable Mel Blanc provided the sputtering voice of Speed Buggy, recalling his radio work thirty years previous, when he played Jack Benny's ever-noisy Maxwell. Working titles for the show included "Speed Bug" and "Speed Buggs," but it premiered under its familiar title on the CBS Saturday Morning line-up in 1973. Only 16 episodes were produced -- in reruns, however, they were ultimately seen on all three major broadcast networks.
