 Ananova:
Taliban can be toppled, says Downing Street

The ruling Taliban in Afghanistan could be ousted as a result of US-led military action, according to the British government.

Tony Blair's official spokesman says it has always been the government's intention and wish to see a democratic regime established in the country.

He added the plans of military action being drawn up by the US government could lead the way for the Taliban to be replaced by such a regime.

Ceefax reports Downing Street does not yet know exactly what Britain's role would be in the event of any military conflict.
