Planning under way for British tourist evacuations

Tour operators are preparing to evacuate British tourists from Islamic countries if the political situation gets worse.

Major travel companies reportedly believe they will have just hours to get their customers out of harms way if conflict erupts.

The Foreign Office is warning holidaymakers visiting destinations such as Egypt and Tunisia to keep a low profile, be vigilant and to keep up to date with fast moving events.

A spokeswoman for Thomson Holidays said: "We are watching the situation very carefully."

Thomson still has customers going to Dubai, Egypt, Oman, Syria and Jordan, the Daily Express reports.

First Choice says it is unsure whether it will be continuing to allow tourists to go to Egypt. It has no customers there are the moment and will decide in the next 48 hours whether tourists due to travel to Egypt next week can go.

British Airways has cancelled flights to a number of hotspots in Asia and Middle East.
