The High Court has ordered the postponement of internal disciplinary proceedings against two social workers following the murder of Anna Climbie. A judge said there was a risk the health of Lisa Arthurworrey and her team leader Angella Mairs would be affected. He feared they would be unable to give evidence to the official public inquiry into the eight-year-old's death in north London. Both women are crucial witnesses in the inquiry, due to start on September 26, under the chairmanship of Lord Laming. They are expected to be called to give evidence before the end of October. Ms Arthurworrey was assigned to look after Anna by the child protection unit of Haringey Council. Both women have been suspended and Haringey's disciplinary hearings had been due to start in August. Anna, also known as Victoria, was sent to Britain from the Ivory Coast by her mother who hoped she would have a better life. But a year after her arrival, she died from neglect, malnutrition and hypothermia, with 128 separate injuries on her body, at the hands of her aunt, Marie-Therese Kouao and her boyfriend Carl Manning. At the Old Bailey in January, Kouao and Manning were convicted of Anna's murder. Ms Arthurworrey is accused by her employers of negligence and failing in her duty to safeguard and promote the interests of a child in her care. Ms Mairs is alleged to have destroyed or removed a document, made false or misleading statements and failed to maintain child care standards.
