Anna social workers judgment reserved |
The High Court has reserved judgment until tomorrow in a case centred on two social workers involved in the Anna Climbie case.
The pair are bidding to prevent disciplinary action being taken against them by their council employer before the completion of a public inquiry into the child's death.
They were suspended from duty following the murder of eight-year-old Anna Climbie.
Lisa Arthurworrey, who was assigned to look after Anna by the child protection unit of Haringey Council in north London, and her team leader Angella Mairs are accusing the council of trying to "usurp" the functions of the official inquiry set up under the chairmanship of Lord Laming.
Anna's mother had sent her to Britain from the Ivory Coast, hoping she would have a better life here.
But a year after her arrival, she died from neglect, malnutrition and hypothermia, with 128 separate injuries on her body, at the hands of her aunt, Marie-Therese Kouao, 44, and her boyfriend Carl Manning, 28.
