Websites list terror attack survivors

Several websites are now offering distraught friends and relatives the chance to check whether loved ones survived Tuesday's terrorist attacks.

The US turned to the web for information after phone lines were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of calls.

Half a dozen sites are sharing the task of registering survivors of the tragedies in New York, Washington and Pittsburgh.

A list of all available sites is available at www.shunn.net/okay/.

That site had been among the first sites to set up a database of survivors, but had to stop taking names because of server overload.

A dedicated US phone line for families of victims and survivors is available on 1-800-331-0075.

The Foreign Office hotline number for Britons with relatives in the US is 020 7008 0000.
