'Win Cash - Kill an American' - Pakistani paper tells readers |
A Pakistani paper has reportedly carried a cash prize offer to any readers who killed an American.
The offer published by the Punjab Post proposed to give £4,200 to any reader for a dead American, it is claimed.
The paper was raided by police and immediately closed down. Its owner, editor, and printers have been arrested for inciting hatred and advocating terrorism. They all protest their innocence.
The offer apparently came from an extremist Muslim sect.
The offer of 400,000 rupees to kill a US citizen was published in an article in the urdu-language newspaper, reports the Hindustan Times.
The offer was reportedly being made by radicals of Pakistan's Sunni Muslim sect but the group has denied involvement.
The owner and editor of the Punjab Post and three others are expected to go on trial during the day.
Religious hardliners in Pakistan have been staging nationwide demonstrations to protest Pakistan's promise to give 'full support' to the United States to fight terrorism.
