New plea to 'safe' Britons |
British authorities have appealed for more than 800 people originally concerned about the safety of relatives in the US to get in touch.
The names were compiled in the days after the attacks but some now need to be eliminated from the total list of those missing.
Britain consul-general in New York, Tom Harris said if relatives had now heard from loved ones they should let the Foreign Office emergency service or police know as soon as possible.
More relatives of the British victims of the attack have arrived in New York with others expected over the next few days.
They have been offered accommodation and a team of police officers trained to deal with bereaved families, as well as 10 counsellors have also arrived in the city.
The counsellors are being led by Dr Arty O'Hara, consultant psychiatrist with Foyle Health and Social Services Trust in Londonderry.
Between 200 and 300 British citizens are believed to have died in the attacks.
