Hoaxers have maliciously posted names of missing people on a website and claimed they survived the World Trade Centre attack. The names appeared on the ny.com tourism site, which is among several trying to help families find lost loved ones. New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has asked Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau to investigate whether the bogus posters can be prosecuted for fraud. Other sick hoaxers mocked the relatives' pain by listing terrorists, cartoon and comic book characters, celebrities and joke names. "It's horrible anyone would do that," said Mr Giuliani. The site's business manager, Avery Harken, said the page is for people to share information about survivors. Mr Harken said his staff were trying to get the fake reports off the list as fast as possible. The New York Post newspaper labels those behind the incident heartless idiots.
