A father has told of his grief at the death of the daughter he knocked down while working on the family's farm. Andrew Ewing bumped into 16-month-old Sarah while driving a 4x4 vehicle just yards from the farmhouse in Dumfries and Galloway. She was taken to Cumberland Hospital in Carlisle after the accident at Dumbretton Farm, but died later. The family was only just beginning to recover from the effects of the foot-and-mouth outbreak, which saw all the farm's cattle slaughtered, when tragedy struck. He said: "I knew I'd hit something and just dreaded what it might be. There was no one about and I got out and saw Sarah lying there. "She was always really excited when I was about. She was just a great, great kid." He added: "The fact that it's you that's responsible for something like this is just totally unbearable." Mr Ewing and his wife Aileen moved to the picturesque area from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland six years ago. The couple have two other children, Andrew, eight, and five-year-old Rachel.
