William Hague's waxwork has been removed from its pedestal at Madame Tussaud's to make space for the new Tory leader. His head will be kept on a shelf alongside Diana Dors and Jimmy Savile while a decision is made on whether to melt him down. If Kenneth Clarke wins the leadership race Tussaud's will make their 1993 model of the former Chancellor "greyer and smarter". If Iain Duncan Smith wins, they'll make a new waxwork which takes around three months. A Madame Tussaud's spokesman said: "We will keep the head and clothes just in case he makes some kind of comeback. "If he's never heard of again we will melt the head down. It depends how quickly people forget him." Celebrities are asked to donate clothes to go on their waxworks. Mr Hague handed over a Hugo Boss suit and shoes in 1997. Tony Blair donated a suit by Marks & Spencer and Kenneth Clarke gave an old tweed jacket and trousers. The spokesman told the London Evening Standard: "No one's ever asked for their clothes back. I think they like to think there's a little part of themselves still hanging around." Story filed: 12:40 Tuesday 11th September 2001 CHECK FOR MORE ON:
