He studied extensively the lore of the Rings?. He was enslaved to Sauron? when he looked into one of the Palantíri?. He is first mentioned in The Fellowship of the Ring, although he is not actually seen until the latter half of [The Two Towers]?. At the end of [The Return of the King]? he is killed by his servant, [Gríma Wormtongue]?.
