AOL = America OnLine? A company that was originally solely an ISP, but has turned into a media company, especially after the merger with [Time Warner]?.

AOL is also jokingly called "Assholes OnLine?" by experienced internet users. This is because AOL users are viewed as newbies?, who are not interested in the workings of the internet, and therefore do no not understand the customs and conventions - ie. netiquette? - of the internet.
