MTV 120 minutes, interview transcript
- Lewis Largent interviewed Polly Jean Harvey, shown on 6/12/95 on 120 minutes, MTV.

LL: ... Backstage at the WHFS Festival. Sort of the granddaddy of the festivals that exist. And we're sittin here to my left, Polly Jean Harvey. Polly or PJ?

[Polly sitting with little make up, a tank top and tight black leather pants]

PJ: I (uh???) don't mind either.

LL: I'm gonna go with PJ around. So, what has happened to you? You've just, your shows, your performances, you just, your general dispositions, has become, you..you've changed...changed immensely since your last album. PJ: Um

LL: You're becoming more comfortable with, with

PJ: Way, way too comfortable. Um, no, just getting older really. I think. I've been doing this for four years now and I think, yea, just through experience you learn better how to deal with things and you become more (moti) relaxed and, I don't know, I'm enjoying myself. I'm having the time of my life.

LL: Your stage shows have become a much more visual presentation than just you playing guitar. At what point did that come about? Did you just sort of like have that as your train of thought before you went on the road or how did that all come about?

PJ: Well I knew I didn't want to play guitar because I want to just concentrate on singing so I knew that before even I put a band together. I didn't know that when I wrote the album. It's kind of afterwards I thought and I really just want to put 100% in singing. And I always felt I wanted to be to use my body a bit more in to articulating the words. I didn't know how if, I thought I might feel a bit inhibited but that hasn't been the case so far and we've been touring for three months now...

LL: Did your wardrobe has anything to do with it? You developed quite an elaborate wardrobe.

PJ: Um yeah, I think, uh, I'm discovering the joys of dressing up again since, you know, for the first time, since I was about eight years old. It's good fun and it brings out a lot different ways of performance, each different costumes, maybe performance in a lot of different way and I like that and it's nice to keep things like that fresh when you're touring particularly so that you'd approach something with afresh state of mind.

"Oh help me Jesus..."[at the festival with her cyan sleeveless tight dress, light blue eye shawdow and long eye lashes, in front of the crowd]

LL: I mean, we're going to premiere your new video right now for "C'mon illy" I've seen it. Do you want to talk about it?

PJ: Um, it was fun to make and it was most fun for me because it was the most like a film or actually act I've done so that was quite challenged.

"C'Mon Billy" video starts.
