J Mascis Injured in Car Accident
Eyewear inspires fashion moguls to test-market MENSA chic

Ryan Schreiber reports:
Longtime Dinosaur Jr singer/songwriter J Mascis was injured in an automobile accident in Sweden on Sunday, according to an official press release from Mascis' UK label City Slang. He was on tour with his new band, The Fog, in support of their latest album, More Light. He is currently hospitalized with two broken vertebrae, and is "in a lot of pain," but the label assures us that he's healing well and will be able to return home today or tomorrow. The remaining European tour dates have been diagnosed with cancellation.

White Stripes' New Album due July 3rd
"I could do that" overheard at every concert

Alan Haworth reports:
Just thirteen months after the release of their breakthrough album, De Stijl, the White Stripes are set to return with White Blood Cells, due in stores July 3rd. As reported by the band's official website, the sound of the album will not stray from their unique garage band/blues punk sound that has gained them national recognition. Furthermore, they remain on Sympathy for the Record Industry (home of Redd Kross, Mr. Airplane Man, and the Muffs), instead of being wooed by Fat Possum or Sub Pop as rumored. Jack and Meg White, play all of the songs with only guitars and drums, creating "everything from country-twinged ditties to Sabbath-styled fuzzbuckets."

Dianogah to Release Third LP
Midwestern posteriors to be "post-rocked" by two-bass onslaught

Brad Haywood reports:
According to their official website, bassists Jay Harvey and Jay Ryan and drummer Kip McCabe of Dianogah have a busy month ahead of them. Despite the onerous weight of lugging around two entire bass rigs, the Chicago post-rock trio will be playing three shows in the Midwest, all while recording their third LP. All that bassmastering can mean only one thing, though we have no idea what it could be.

Dianogah are renowned for pushing the bass to its creative margins. They also have cool friends; they'll share the stage with Archer Prewitt, Shellac, and that popcorn guy.

07-07 Chicago, IL - Schuba's (w/Archer Prewitt and Paul Newman)
07-28 Champaign, IL - High Dive (w/Shellac)
07-29 Indianapolis, IN - TBA (w/Shellac)

Mates of State Plan Tour, Marriage
You see, when two people love each other very, very much, they make pop music together. And that is where albums come from

Brandon Dameshek reports:
The California-via-Lawrence, Kansas duo Mates of State are a busy couple of kids. In addition to planning a U.S. tour beginning in June and carrying all the way through early September, with only a brief hiatus in August to begin work on the follow-up to last year's My Solo Project, Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel are also planning their wedding. The band also plans to release a 7" prior to the July leg of the tour.

Mates of State plan to alter their co-touring line-up after spending time in the studio, though they have confirmed a few select engagements with the Minders through August 10th. Some of these dates are still tentative, but you're a big kid now, and we're sure you can handle it.
